St Kilda West House Furnishing & Styling
Our clients bought this beautiful Victorian era terrace home in St Kilda West to be their Melbourne base. They divide their time internationally and wanted their Melbourne base to have a feeling of home: calmness, warmth and sophistication, surrounded by pieces they love.
Having fallen in love with the bones and feeling of their newly purchased home, they wanted to build on this with furniture and styling specific to their love of Danish Mid Century design. Our clients appreciate beauty and quality and wanted their home to reflect this, but they didn’t want any ‘hero’ pieces to dominate a room. It was also important to create a layered, lived-in look, achieved through the purchase of a mix of new and vintage pieces.
With only a few specific requests, and a general aesthetic to work with, we were given free reign to find the right pieces for each room. We also selected all the decorative objects and styling items to fill the numerous shelves and surfaces, and assisted with the extensive artwork selections.
The rooms photographed below represent a selection of the rooms we designed and styled. We are grateful for the high level of trust placed in us to create the home now much loved by our clients.
The sitting room is the first room you see when entering the home, along with a view through to the adjoining library. The ochre coloured linen sofa by ArthurG provides colour and warmth, with a strong focus on texture and neutral tones for the other furnishings and decorative objects.
The library with shelves styled using vintage books (turned backwards) and ceramics both new and old. The original Pernilla chair with matching ottoman are by mid century designer Bruno Mathsson.
The existing built in study desk was complimented by a new tan leather desk chair, Model 375 Table Lamp, and some lovely sculptures by Mette Ditmer.
Coined the ‘Transition Room’ this previously awkward, undefined space is now a lovely spot to sit and enjoy the view to the garden.
Our clients didn’t have anywhere near the books needed to fill the wall of shelves, so we decided to house their books elsewhere, and to turn the library shelves into a styled art piece that exudes calmness.
Our clients love of the mid century Danish design aesthetic influenced all selections, including the Esben Klint table lamp.
The vintage Viccarbe Fedele sofa and collection of Swedish glassware were purchased at auction to compliment the small scale of the room and joinery.
