It’s particularly important for our homes to reflect our personalities. The design world can take itself very seriously and be very intimidating, or even start to look all the same as we’re fed the same images over and over again; but it doesn't have to be that way. I love it when people add something quirky, fun or humorous into the mix that isn't expected. You can do it with products, artwork, paint - or you can do it on a bolder scale with a whole room.
It’s important to remember not everyone is going to understand your type of fun or quirk, but that's ok because this is about you, not them! A client once said to me of the room below, "I love the wallpaper, but I just don't get the gnome stool!" I could have chosen a more regular but still beautiful side table, but I felt the gnome was perfect to lighten the load of the heavily decorated corner, and it appealed to my sense of humour.
Adding something quirky doesn't have to be tacky or gaudy. It often takes courage, particularly to make bigger budget or permanent fixture decisions, and this is where an Interior Decorator or Interior Designer can help! Obviously it’s also important to find an Interior Designer or Interior Decorator that understands your personality and can reflect that in your interior.
