Rumpus Room Revamp

Having moved back to her childhood home as an adult with her own family, our client engaged us to makeover a once loved, now disused rumpus room. The room had seen better days, but the original billiard table was still there and in great condition. There was also an original lounge suite of which the armchairs were retained. Once the room was cleared out we were left with a blank canvass to work with. The rumpus room was cold and dark and needed some love injected into it.

Key considerations in the brief were for the room to feel warm and inviting, to include the billiard table and record player, to be able to host adults and children, and for the room to accommodate modern forms of entertainment/devices.

Instead of covering the original exposed brick walls, they were retained and provided the foundation for the colour palette. The pine ceilings were painted and a plush carpet installed to inject light, softness and warmth into the room. The view to the beautiful garden was highlighted through our design of a multi height platform that could accommodate a screen, storage for books and records, as well as extra seating and lounging.

The colours and materials selected for the custom joinery, cushions and upholstery are fun, warm and textural. The gold paintings and pendant light add a touch of glamour to the room. There is deliberately a touch of retro to the room’s décor, particularly highlighted by the restored and reupholstered armchairs.

We hope the rumpus room makeover provides the new generation with as many happy memories as the room provided our client growing up.
